Mark Steins died on August 15, 2025 after a brief illness surrounded by his wife, Moira, and family in the home they shared and made into a sanctuary. Mark was born on June 21, 1966 in Kenmore, New York to Bill and Anne Steins. Mark was the youngest of six children.
Like a strong river carving its path, Mark’s life flowed with purpose and passion, touching all those around him. Mark was talented at creating an environment where plants, animals or people could thrive. Mark’s warm, laid-back, playful, and witty personality, made people feel instantly welcome and at ease. They say that positivity is infectious, and Mark’s certainly was. When he entered a room, his vibrant smile and cheerful nature uplifted everyone around him. And if there was a problem that needed a creative solution, Mark eagerly provided one or even five possibilities. Never one to let grass grow under his feet, he owned a lawn maintenance company. This gave him the chance to do what he loved—spend time outdoors and connect with his customers.
To be in Mark’s presence was a magical, unconventional adventure; whether that be at his home traversing through tomato vines, on the keys diving for lobster, or scoping out a new brewery. Nothing drove Mark away from the water, not even being bitten by a shark. More than anything, Mark treasured spending time with his wife Moira, his constant companion and canoe co-pilot. He was happiest exploring Florida’s sparkling springs and beautiful rivers with Moira in their canoe, Pylo.
Always the optimist, Mark loved the Buffalo Bills. A proud and avid Billiever, Mark loved rooting for the Bills, alongside his family. On Sundays, Mark looked forward to spending quality time with his mother, Anne, and attending church virtually with her.
Mark is preceded in death by his father William Steins, his brother, Raymond Steins, and his sister Mary Anne Valverde. Mark is survived by his wife, Moira. He is also survived by his mother, Anne Steins, Brothers, Richard (Kim) Steins, Russell (Patti Jo) Steins, and Michael Steins and nieces, nephews and cousins.
We should all take a page from Mark’s book by facing each day with optimism, making every moment count, offering curiosity rather than judgement, and most importantly being good to others. As Josh Allen says, “Be good, do good, God Bless, and Go Bills.”
