On the morning of Sunday, November 16, 2025, Ninnah passed away peacefully at Dr. Phillips Hospital in Orlando, Florida, following a brief illness. She was surrounded by her beloved family. Ninnah was 79 years old.
Ninnah was born at Ft. Oglethorpe, Ga. on October 5, 1946. She joined her older brother, Mike Jr. and was the only daughter of Mike and Estelle Sewick. Ninnah spent her early years near Chattanooga, Tenn. before the family settled in Atlanta, Ga. She was an active child, an avid roller skater, and a talented majorette. She attended FultonHigh School, where she also played clarinet, and graduated in the Class of 1964.
Friends introduced Ninnah to the love of her life, Neil Allen, and he was immediately smitten by her beauty. The couple dated throughout her high school years and married on April 25, 1964. They welcomed their first child, Ninnah Estelle Allen, in October 1965. Two more daughters followed: Angela Karen (Kari) Allen in August 1968 and Cherie Marie Allen in December 1971. Ninnah’s girls were her pride and joy, and she never missed an opportunity to dress them up in beautiful, matching outfits, many of which she sewed herself. She often joked that they were her living baby dolls. She was creative and enjoyed crafts, including macrame, ceramics, crochet, cake decorating and painting.
Ninnah was more than a homemaker; she cared for her husband, her girls, and her home with the utmost attention, always decorating for every season, cooking and cleaning tirelessly, and carefully teaching her daughters the ins and outs of managing a home and family. Even until her last days, she never went to bed with a dirty dish in the sink. Ninnah and Neil loved to travel, and the family frequently visited other states, including 18 trips to Hawaii. Every year included smaller escapes to the North Georgia Mountains, where the family enjoyed her legendary home-cooked breakfasts.
Neil and Ninnah moved to Orlando, Fla. in 1989, when Neil’s business relocated there. Ninnah often worked there, cleaning, answering phones and more. She was an active member of Peace Church. Her faith in Christ was her strength, and she enjoyed sharing about His love and provision. Ninnah was known as an encourager, always finding something positive to say to others, often complimenting strangers in her mission to spread joy. She was feisty and funny, always enjoying a good joke or comedy on TV. Ninnah became a grandmother in January 1998 when her first grandson, Zachary Allen Apted was born to Kari and Donnie Apted. Ninnah delighted in her new role as beloved “Nana” and was elated by each new arrival. Zach was joined by two brothers, Elias Jeremiah in 2002 and Jonah Cade Apted in 2009. The family further expanded in 2014 when the Apteds adopted their daughter, Violet.
On July 4, 1994, Ninnah and Neil began hosting a family reunion in Florida to gather with their kids and grandkids for a week. Most were held at various Marriott resorts around the state, including West Palm Beach, Marco Island, and Orlando. The reunions eventually switched to April to take advantage of cooler weather, and the family vows to continue the tradition in her memory, even though it cannot possibly be the same without her. She will be missed more deeply and purely than she ever could have imagined.
Ninnah was preceded in death by her mother, Estelle Scott Sewick; her father, Mike Sewick; her brother, Mike T. Sewick; and several beloved aunts and uncles. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Neil Allen, their three daughters, and four grandchildren.
Special thanks to the neighbors and friends who love Ninnah and Neil like family and look out for them by providing meals and checking in regularly.
The family is planning a celebration of life service in Orlando sometime in April 2026. Please reach out to a family member if you would like to receive an invitation.
